Singapore Wildlife Parks with Kids: Which Ones Are Worth Visiting?

Singapore is an amazing place to travel with children. But let’s be honest — when you hear Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise, it can feel like… a lot.

Which Singapore wildlife parks are actually worth it to go to with kids?
Can you do them all?
Will your kids enjoy it… or will everyone end up tired and sweaty halfway through?

Thea and I visited all Singapore wildlife parks multiple times, and I’ll share not just what’s there — but what it actually feels like to go with a child.

A quick honest note before we start

To be honest, I am not a huge fan of zoos and wildlife parks in general. I’ve always struggled with the idea of animals in captivity.

But… what kid does not love animals?

My daughter absolutely adores them. So yes — I guess that makes me a bit of a hypocrite. We do visit wildlife parks when we travel. That said, Singapore feels different. The parks are incredibly well maintained, the enclosures are large and thoughtfully designed, and overall it feels much more focused on education and conservation rather than just entertainment. So if you are travelling to Singapore with kids — these parks are definitely worth considering.

Singapore travel with kids tips:

Travel tip: The easiest way to get to around Singapore is by taxi. Especially when you go to places further away, such as wildlife parks. Unless you bring your own travel seat, book a car service that comes with a child’s car seat included.

Travel tip 2: A family vacation in Singapore deserves more than selfies! I recommend a Flytographer photoshoot of the traveling family to capture those precious memories in Singapore. After all, aren’t the memories from the trip the best souvenir? (Use the code LITTLETRAVELLER for $25 off)

SINGAPORE ZOO WITH KIDS

Address: 80 Mandai Lake Road
Nearest MRT: Khatib (then shuttle)

Opening hours: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM (last entry ~5:00 PM)
Ticket price (approx 2026):

  • Adults: S$48–55
  • Children (3–12): S$33–38

I have to admit — Singapore Zoo is ranked among the best zoos in the world for a reason. It doesn’t feel like a typical zoo. It feels like a huge, green, open space where animals just happen to live around you.

What it’s like visiting with kids

The zoo is BIG. And I mean really big — much bigger than I expected. At first, I thought we would just “walk through it casually.”
That didn’t happen. Within an hour, we were already grateful for the free tram rides that circle the zoo. On a hot day (which they all are in Singapore) with kids, these trams are honestly a lifesaver. Thea loved hopping on and off, and it gave us little breaks without fully stopping the day.

Animal encounters & shows

The shows are actually really well done — not overwhelming, not too long (around 15–20 minutes), and surprisingly educational. Typical shows include:

  • Splash Safari (sea lions — always a hit)
  • Animal Friends (smaller animals, very kid-friendly)
  • Rainforest Fights Back (more educational)

We didn’t plan around shows at first — mistake. If you can, check times in advance and build your day around one or two.

Little moments that stood out
  • Watching Thea press her face against the glass, completely fascinated
  • The water play area (bring extra clothes — trust me)
  • The feeling that the animals had space, which made me personally feel a bit better about being there
Macaque warning (important)

This surprised us. There are wild macaques around the zoo — not part of the exhibits. They are cute… until they try to grab your bag.

Avoid:

  • carrying visible food
  • holding plastic bags

If they approach — stay calm and walk away.

How long you need

Plan at least half a day (3–5 hours)
With shows + breaks → easily a full day

Bird Paradise with kids (formerly Jurong Bird Park)

Address: 20 Mandai Lake Road, Singapore
Opening hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (last entry ~5:00 PM)
Ticket price (approx 2026):

  • Adults: ~S$49
  • Children: ~S$34

I’ll be honest — before visiting, I wasn’t particularly excited about Bird Paradise. In my mind, it was just… birds. And compared to lions, elephants, or pandas — it didn’t feel like the highlight.

But I was wrong.

What Bird Paradise actually feels like

Bird Paradise is not your typical “walk past cages” kind of place.

It’s more like stepping into different parts of the world — one moment you’re in a lush rainforest, the next in a waterfall aviary, and suddenly birds are flying right above your head.

And that’s the part that surprised me the most. You’re not just looking at birds — you’re walking inside their world. The park is home to around 3,500 birds across 400 species, spread across large walk-through aviaries designed to feel like natural habitats. This ended up being one of the most relaxed days for us. No rushing. No pressure to “see everything. Thea wasn’t running from one enclosure to another like she did in the zoo. Instead, she just… wandered. At one point, she stood completely still watching flamingos for what felt like forever — which honestly says a lot.

The moments kids love most
  • Birds flying freely around you (this feels magical for kids)
  • Feeding sessions (always a hit)
  • Waterfall aviaries (cooler and refreshing in the heat)
  • Seeing birds up close, not behind glass

And unlike the zoo, it feels calmer — less overwhelming.

Bird shows (don’t skip these)

If there’s one thing you plan — plan around the shows. The main ones include:

  • Predators on Wings (birds of prey like eagles)
  • Wings of the World (colourful birds and fun interactions)

They run a couple of times a day and last around 15–20 minutes. We almost skipped them — and I’m so glad we didn’t. They were fun, interactive, educational and genuinely impressive.

Practical things that actually matter
  • Stroller-friendly paths ✔️
  • Rental options (strollers, wagons, wheelchairs) ✔️
  • Plenty of shaded areas ✔️
  • Water stations and rest spots ✔️

This is one of the easier parks with kids in terms of walking and comfort.

How long you need

Around 2–4 hours. You don’t need a full day here unless you want to take it very slow.

Honest tip (this is important)

If you’re short on time:

Visit Zoo + River Wonders first
Add Bird Paradise only if you have an extra day

But if your kids love animals (especially calmer experiences), this can easily become one of your favourite parks.

RIVER WONDERS WITH KIDS (formerly known as River Safari)

Despite its misleading name, the River Wonders is not just about fish and the rivers. In fact it is a river-themed zoo and aquarium located in Mandai, forming part of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve. The two wildlife park counterparts are the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari.

If you love pandas, River Wonders is a place to go! There is a large (and very cold) enclosure for two pandas who came to Singapore from China. The male panda is called Kai Kai (凯凯) meaning victorious and the female panda is called Jia Jia (嘉嘉) which means fine or beautiful. Kai Kai and Jia Jia became parents on the morning of 14th August 2021. Their panda son, called Le Le is the first panda cub born in Singapore! His name originates from the old Chinese term ‘shi le po’, which refers to Singapore. He joined his mom Jia Jia inside her exhibit at the Giant Panda Forest at River Wonders. So head over to River Wonders to meet the little guy!

Sometimes pandas hide away from visitors, but most of the times we see them chilling and snacking on bamboos. There is a super cute red panda too! I’m not sure if it has a name though.

River Wonders is located next to Singapore Zoo. It’s a better choice on rainy days as most of the pathways are covered so you don’t really get exposed to the rain.

There are plenty of various fish from the rivers worldwide. Moreover we also used to see a massive alligator, but the last couple of times we visited, it was no longer there. We saw a relatively small crocodile swimming in one of the pools though. If you or your kids have never seen a Manatee that’s your chance there. Thea commented that they look like giant lazy puppies.

River Wonders Singapore

Please do yourself a favor and join an animal show at Once Upon a River! It was interesting, hilarious, and really entertaining. Contrary to what I thought initially, they do not abuse animals during these shows. Instead, they educate visitors and foster a love for animals and nature. We had the most wonderful time, and I absolutely recommend watching at least one show!

Amazon River Quest is probably one of the highlights of the park. For extra fee you can embark on a boat adventure journey which is designed to stimulate a journey along the actual Amazon River. Please note there are height restrictions for children. Riders must be at least 1.06m to hop onboard. The last ride departs at 6 pm.

Now the fun in River Wonders does not end at close of business, because from 7.15 pm till 11 pm the park invites visitors for a NIGHT SAFARI.

SINGAPORE NIGHT SAFARI WITH KIDS

It is THE best nightspot for children! Night Safari is a guided 40 mins long tram tour and is an amazing experience for kids. The tram takes you through 7 different geographical zones of the world and reveals their most fascinating nocturnal animals in their specially lit enclosures.

After your tram ride, I highly recommend watching the Nocturnal Animals Show, where you’ll get to meet friendly hosts and learn more about the animals that reside in the park. Thea and I had a fantastic time there!

By the way, an important piece of advice- take and use a generous amount of insect repellent on your kids during your Night Safari adventure. Mosquitos love the Night Safari too.

Baby strollers (up to 15 kg) and wheelchairs are available to rent for S$ 8

HOW TO GET TO THE WILDLIFE PARKS WITH KIDS FROM CENTRAL SINGAPORE?

River Wonders, Night Safari, Bird Paradise and Singapore Zoo are located next to each other and are relatively far from central Singapore. The easiest access is by taxi or Grab (car hire app, like Uber), however you can also take MRT (subway in Singapore). If you travel with young children it is possible to select baby seat or toddler booster seat while booking via Grab app.

The nearest MRT stop is Khatib on the red line. It’s not within a walking distance so there is a special shuttle decorated with animal stickers and plush toys between the MRT stop and the parks priced at $1 per person.

Good news for butterfly fans! There are at least three venues in Singapore dedicated for interactions with butterflies. You can see and explore butterflies up close in Science Centre, Changi Airport and on Sentosa Island. Read the article below with more information about each venue:
