Malaysia with kids: Aquaria Kuala Lumpur

We flew to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore when Thea was ~1.5 years old. Still a tiny tot with a pacifier in her mouth.
My husband was going on a business trip, and we just tagged along. I had been to Kuala Lumpur before, and I enjoyed it, so I thought I’d use the opportunity to walk around and explore a bit of KL with my daughter.
I chose to take her to Aquaria Kuala Lumpur, which is located next to KLCC Park and within walking distance of the famous Petronas towers.

It is described as the top aquarium attraction in South East Asia. (Though I think whoever made this claim hasn’t been to S.E.A Aquarium in Singapore…) Anyway, it is fun. You know how people say something like ‘it was a jaw-dropping experience’? So this happened to Thea- once we entered and she saw those giant aquariums with fish and other creatures five times her size, the pacifier fell out of her mouth.

WHAT’S IN THERE TO SEE:

The exhibits at Aquaria Kuala Lumpur are designed to take visitors on a kind of journey. It begins with the Evolution Zone all the way to the Living Ocean.
It is the longest underwater tunnel in Malaysia, and it is really nice because it showcases Malaysian species, such as Green Sea Turtles, Giant Groupers, and… SHARKS! Well, Sand Tiger Sharks, to be exact, but for a toddler obsessed with the ‘Baby shark doo doo doo…’ song, that was quite something!

SLEEP WITH SHARKS- THEIR SIGNATURE PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN

We didn’t get to try it out as the program is meant for children aged 6-13, and Thea was way too tiny at the time. However, this is something I would like her to experience. Why?
Well, children get to witness various nocturnal activities by sharks and other marine creatures; they also participate in night feeding sessions and educational workshops, conduct science experiments, participate in discovery hunts, join tours, and, well, get to sleep with the sharks. What kid would not enjoy that?
